The central element of the design can create a new identity for Helsinki East Urban Centre. Large but openwork construction platform stretches like muscles and tendons over Itäväylä and Meripellontie streets (+ 8m). This solution provides convenient and safe pedestrian-bicycle connections between different parts of the district. It increases traffic safety and facilitates transit car traffic. It also allows to create pleasant urban spaces as well as more green areas. The function of the ice cubes buildings (i.e. Chapel, DayCare, Bazaar, Culture Center) stimulates the society integration, many of whom are immigrants. The latter is a set of buildings connecting 10 major cultures of the world. The other parts of the design increase the buildings density, supplement the district functionality and create a water retention reservoir. All solutions are designed in order to comply with the Carbon-neutral Helsinki Action Plan and the existing functional solutions.
