Regaining Helsinki East. Because it’s a place with great potential which is in need of a serious overhaul. Our aim is to transform Helsinki East to a bustling, vibrant local urban centre.
Helsinki East’s future success will be aided by its three main principles: a variety of urban spaces where people can move easily through, a strong urban DNA that takes to emphasis from cars to people and a long term future plan that bets on environmental, social and economic sustainability.
Currently the competition area is fragmented into many parts by major roads. The first step happens by “sewing” together these parts through new interventions, or by improving and altering existing connections. The routes are complemented by a variety of urban plazas. They differ in character (green or paved), size, intimacy (from the public plazas to small intimate backyards for the residents) and usages (relaxing, sport, shopping…).
