The vision of the proposal is to transform Helsinki East Urban Centre into an attractive location with a strong identity of public spaces. The urban proposal should not be understood as a finalized design but rather a strategy of how to change the perception of an urban environment in the eyes of citizens. People evaluate the quality of a neighborhood through the public space and its character. We are proposing a 2-step method of urban redevelopment that should lead to a much more habitable and enjoyable urban setting. Firstly, we are creating a strong and attractive entity of the whole neighborhood – Public Ring. Public Ring connects, activates and stimulates all forms of public activity that could happen in between the buildings. Secondly, the proposal for the building blocks has been directed by the need of adaptable architecture. We believe that the result of this strategy will increase the quality of life in the Helsinki East Urban Centre neighborhood.
