This entry aims to expand upon the multicultural harmony already existing in the area welcoming more inhabitants and visitors to the East.
The proposal plans to transform the area into a more modern and lively neighbourhood offering more opportunities for current and future residents, small businesses and service providers.
“Welcome East” creates new public squares and expands existing ones.
Existing cultural functions such as STOA and its library are extended towards a newly created park square opening towards Puhos. In addition, STOA’s roofs become accessible and green. Puhos commercial center will be enlarged with a new greenhouse like structure that could make it the largest oriental market hall of the Nordics entitled “Puhos Souq”.
Commercial spaces, along the future boulevards and public squares are to be developed and enlarged on the ground levels. While parking is minimized on a block by block basis, parking garages near the highways are proposed to act as sound barriers and to encourage a car-free zone in the area.
